A collaboration between Buffalo saxophonist Elliot Scozzaro, bassist Joe Goehle and drummer Devin Kelly, the trio will present a highly curated selection of songs written and/or recorded by legendary saxophone icon Sonny Rollins. Mr. Rollins became an early champion of the “chord-less trio” format beginning in the mid to late 1950’s, recording several seminal trio albums including “Way Out West” with Ray Brown & Shelly Manne, “A Night at the Village Vanguard” featuring bassists Donald Bailey/Wilbur Ware & drummers Pete LaRoca/Elvin Jones and “The Freedom Suite” with Oscar Pettiford & Max Roach. He continued to perform in the trio format through the mid-1960’s while touring Europe with notable sidemen, Henry Grimes, Bob Cranshaw, Kenny Clarke & Roy Haynes yielding additional live concert recordings. Featured song selections will include “Pent-Up House”, “Valse Hot”, “Night in Tunisia”, “St. Thomas”, “Old Devil Moon”, “East Broadway Rundown”, “Sonnymoon for Two”, “I Can’t Get Started”, “Get Happy”, Softly as in a Morning Sunrise”, “Airegin” & “Namely You”... among others.
